Ginger’s Easter Egg Run

Every year, the Ginger’s Easter Egg Run runs from Leigh to Manchester Children’s Hospital, taking eggs to the kids stuck in hospital over the Easter holidays. When it first started, the eggs were carried by the bikers, but as the event got bigger – and the donations increased – we had to use cars to carry them. This year was the 31st run and we needed a Transit van!

Some of the bikes in the car park at Leigh Miners’ Club. Mine is front and centre!

Actually, what we almost needed this year was a snowplough! The weather was absolutely foul – high winds, freezing cold and lots of snow. Didn’t stop loads of people turning out though.

The bikes outside Manchester Children’s Hospital getting snowed on. Again.

I was a bit disappointed that neither Leigh Miners’ Club nor the hospital put on any food or drinks for the riders. I know the ride is for charity, but it was damned cold, and I think someone could have stretched to coffees or hot chocolates. That’s a minor quibble though.

I can’t say that I enjoyed the ride exactly, but it was a good experience despite the weather. And seeing all the eggs going to the kids was just brilliant.

Just some of the Easter Eggs collected.

  1. oh that’s so heartwarming, what a lovely event to be a part of, and look at ALL those eggs, brilliant, well done. And how fabulous so many turned up despite the weather.

  2. Hi, what a wonderful thing to be a part of! Even if it was cold. I bet the smiles that lit up the children’s face was enough to warm you right through… Okay, a hot chocolate would have been nice too.

Thank you for linking up with #keepingitreal.

    xx
